ROSCOMMON – At the end of each semester, the Art Department at Kirtland Community College holds an art show, displaying the students’ work. The displays range from fine art (drawings and paintings), computer generated artwork, 3-D work, and sculptures.
This year Patrick Karasch of Tawas displayed a different type of work – a sculptured costume.
‘Cosplays have been a big passion of mine for about four years,’ Karasch said.
According to Wikipedia, ‘cosplay’ is defined as ‘a contraction of the words costume play, is a performance art in which participants called cosplayers wear costumes and fashion accessories to represent a specific character.’
Karasch’ costume depicts the character The Lich King from World of Warcraft. He created it from eva foam – floor mats for home gyms. It took him about 3 -+ months to create.
Karasch is working towards his art degree hoping to become a concept artist; work as a prop and costume maker; or do something in product design. After receiving his degree at KCC he will transfer to Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids.
