Grayling Promotional Association Update

Happy New Year to everyone who takes the time to read this little epistle!!!! Hope the year ahead is a good one for you – for our town and our country. Let’ all remember to be kind to one-another – and to follow the words in the Golden Rule my mother taught me – Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. It works every time.

So – how’ your January been? For me – too cold!!! When the Manistee River freezes over you know it’ too cold. I wouldn’t walk on it, but its frozen over – probably an inch or two. The birds are trying so hard to survive I have to fill my feeders twice a day. I’ve got two flocks of wild turkeys that come by and eat all the birdseed that falls from the feeders. They look pretty well fed, but they must be getting food somewhere else – don’t think they’re surviving on what they get here. Now we’ve had a warm spell and who knows what Mother Nature has in store for us the remainder of the winter.

GPA is meeting every week out at the new Kirtland building. Mark Allen – who oversees the food at Kirtland – is feeding us well. Mark is also on the Grayling City Council. It takes a good man to satisfy 30 or more women every week – and he’ doing a fine job. We’ll be at Kirtland every Tuesday thru January. During February and March, we will be meeting at the Ramada Inn twice a month. This because our attendance drops due to those lucky snowbirds that go to warmer climates. Then starting in April, we return to our weekly schedule.

We had a look at our financial status this week and find we did well last year. With all our donations to various programs in Grayling – we still came out ahead. There will be a lot of discussion in the next few weeks regarding new and old projects. We have some that occur every year, but usually we have at least one or two new requests we will take up for discussion. We’re already planning for Pictionary in April and our Shop Grayling First cards.

If you get tired of sitting home every evening, I’d like to remind everyone about the great musical events that are held at the Artisan Gallery usually on the 3rd Wednesday of every month. In addition – this month’ Business After Hours put on by the Chamber is being sponsored by LaFontaine Chevrolet. It’ always a pleasant evening and a chance to meet new people. You’ll see GPA represented at both these events. Both events are a good way to get rid of the winter blues or that ‘I’m stuck in the house because it’ cold outside’ feeling. Plus – you’ll find out what’ going on around town.
