Chamber hosts women’s business luncheon

By Megan Wilson

GAYLORD – On Nov. 7th, the Gaylord Area Chamber hosted the first annual Connecting Women’s Luncheon at the Otsego Grand Event Center.

“Events like this are nice because they bring an opportunity for employees and community members to make connections and form relationships that they would otherwise not be able to,” said Taylor Akin Gaylord Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director.

This was the first of four planned events, the next luncheon is scheduled to be held at the Michaywe Club House on February 13, 2018, at 12 p.m, doors open at 11:30 a.m.
“Each luncheon will have a planned speaker, the next one will be focusing on Women’s Health and Stress Management,” said Akin. “This time we decided to focus on retirement savings and investment planning.”

Women make up approximately 46.8 percent of the workforce in the United States, worldwide that number shrinks to forty percent.

“I feel that this event is beneficial for bringing women together because we all have jobs, and we’re coming together to connect, learn, and grow,” said Rachel Smith, Connecting Women’s Luncheon Mentor.

Jeanette Kowal, Divisional Vice President of AIG givies a presentation on investing for the future.

Space is limited for the upcoming February Women in Business Luncheon, so make sure to call the Gaylord Chamber of Commerce today at 989-732-6333.

“We sold 150 tickets for this first Women in Business Luncheon, they went very quickly, and actually added more to accommodate the demand,” said Gaylord Area Chamber of Commerce Administrative Assistant Rebecca Rodgers.
